 SSS Source Catalog Tool

Introduction

The SSS Source Catalog Tool (SCT) is a browser based application that allows observers to create and maintain catalogs of sources. A user may add new sources to a catalog, edit sources already contained in a catalog, and remove unwanted sources from a catalog. Via a text based export and import facility, observers can send copies of their catalogs to other observers. The source catalog also supports the categorization of sources into arbitrary groupings. A source in a catalog need not to belong to a group; alternatively, a source can belong to many groups. Observers also have the ability to view, but not to alter, sources and groups in standard calibrator catalogs. Via a copy / paste mechanism, observers can copy these calibrators to their own catalogs.

One of the nicest things about the SCT is that it is seemlessly integrated into the SSS Observation Preparation Tool (OPT). When preparing an observation for scheduling, the observer may copy sources from their catalogs, and from the standard calibrator catalogs, into their scans.

User Manual

The manual is not yet available.
An introductory presentation is available in these formats: odp, pdf, and ppt.

Application Location

A test version of the SSS Source Catalog Tool may be found at http://webtest.aoc.nrao.edu/sct/. That version of the SCT has prototypes of some standard calibrator catalogs already populated. You will be able to view, but not alter, those catalogs and their entries. You are invited to play with the tool by creating new catalogs. Understand, though, that during this phase in our development, your catalogs may be removed at any point and without prior notice.

API Documentation

You will notice that the application has surprisingly few classes. This is because it relies heavily on the richness of the classes in the building block packages to do much of the needed work. The application programmers' interface for all SCT classes may be seen by going to the API overview.

Source Location

The source code for this application is held in a subversion repository (user name and password required). The files used for providing help messages to users is held in a separate subversion repository.

Dependencies

The SSS Source Catalog Tool is dependent on the all the SSS Building Block Software, but not on any other SSS Application. It is also dependent on some third party software. The full set of dependencies may be found in the pom.xml file that we use in our Maven 2 build process. Various versions of these may be found in the SCT Repository.
