The next Galactic Center conference, tentatively titled GC02: The Central Kiloparsec, is now firmly scheduled for November 4-8, 2002. The workshop will be held at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The science scope of the conference will include objects on the kiloparsec scale and the milliparsec scale, and everything in between. The format will be similar to GC98, with large blocks of time reserved for discussion. Motivated by the intention of creating an environment conducive to the interesting and useful discussions we enjoyed in Tucson, we hope to limit the number of participants to around 80, although the number will not be as strictly adhered to as at the last meeting. We will be providing a sufficient number reminders of all deadlines, however, to insure you have ample opportunity to participate. The mailing list will consist of all subscribers to GCNEWS and the conference is, of course, intended for professional astronomers.
The scientific organinzing committee will be assembled in the coming month, and we will provide you with more detailed program information in the next issue of GCNEWS. We are also in the process of setting up webpages for the workshop, and will let you know via our ``Newsflash'' service as soon as those are available. There is such an abundance of new and exciting GC results since the last workshop, and indeed in within the last year, that we know the workshop will be very interesting.
The Hilton Waikoloa Village is located approximately seventeen miles north of the Kona airport and is one of the premiere resorts on the island, but we have negotiated a $130 per night room rate. Although the meeting facilities are excellent, the resort is strongly geared towards family vacations. In addition, we anticipate planning several spouse/partner activities during the week, so spouses/partners are encouraged to attend (thereby getting the rest of us out of hot water for spending a week in Hawaii). The resort also caters to children, with several day long activities available (at an extra cost of course).
So, mark your calendars for the next Galactic Center Workshop, November 4-8, 2002 in Hawaii!
We keep getting questions and emails which are difficult to deal with even for the experienced GCNEWS team.

We, of course, know about a mouse and a pelican in the Galactic Center. There are pistols and even bullets flying around, but does anyone know anything about fish (dead or alive)? Apparently there is some money in this business. Delivery times might be a bit of a problem though ...
