New Digital Camera

I have purchased an 8 Mega-pixel digital SLR camera. With a 70-300mm image-stablized zoom lens, a doubler, and the corection for digital cameras, this is equivalent to the 1000-mm F/11 Celestron C90 I was using with a Nikon 90S and film. The big advantages are the high quality digital recording and the image stabilization. At this full, 20-power equivalent magnification, the camera suffers from the same small depth of field and need for manual focus as my old camera. I have discovered, however, that the auto-focus that is available when the doubler is omitted is very accurate and powerful. I suspect that I will use the camera without the doubler much of the time. A couple of comparizon pictures are below. There is also a scenery lens that came with the camera which I used for the picture of my father and some of the pictures of my God daughter and my cats.

Bird pictures taken with the new digital camera in late 2006 and 2007 are now shown on separate New Mexico pages for Socorro County and the rest of New Mexico.

In the table below, a click on the picture in the left column will get you to a larger picture. A click on the right-hand thumbnail, will get you to the full unaltered jpeg as recorded by the camera.
