April 26, 2000 - In a press release given today at NASA headquarters, the BOOMERANG collaboration has announced the first Cosmic Microwave Background results from their circum-antarctic flight last year, showing astounding maps of the tiny fluctuations in the early universe that are the precursors of the largest scale structures that we can see today in the Universe. April 17, 2000 - I hope that the drive to build better and larger optical telescopes is not just a case of "telescope envy" as is somewhat tritely depicted in the AP coverage in this CNN news story. After all, we have just completed this decades review under the assumption that advances in astronomy are fueled by improvements in observational tools. Still, the race to line up private donors to foot the bill for big-ticket University facilities may leave less well-connected Universities behind. Just a thought...

December 28, 1999 - The shuttle Discovery mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope landed today, after a successful mission. Astronomers thank the NASA employees who gave up their holidays to help fix the ailing telescope. The HST was shut down earlier this fall due to failure of another of its gyroscopes.
