  15 Example of Phase Errors on an Image:  
 
 
The image at the above left is a restored clean image of standard calibrator source 3C286 made from data taken with the VLA in D-configuration at 6 cm. The image at the right is made in the same way, but from the data after putting a 1 radian phase offset on baselines to antenna 1. The pattern of the phase error can be seen in the residuals inside the inner quarter that was cleaned, where the rms residual level jumped from 0.8 mJy/beam to over 30 mJy/beam! The peak in the map is 7.5 Jy. This data was processed in aips++.
