5 Image Plane or Fourier Plane?

  • Far-Field distortions appear in Image Plane

  • Errors may be closing (antenna based) or non-closing (baseline based)

  • Antenna-based errors more easily diagnosed in Fourier plane but impact in Image Plane is diluted by other antennas

  • Single baseline (correlator) errors diluted further in Image Plane

  • Common-mode errors are exacerbated in Image Plane cf. visibilities

  • Time-specific (integration) errors can conspire to be bad in Image Plane

  • If Science Goal is Imaging, then evalutate allowable error budget in Image Plane

  • Fourier Relationships Visibilities <=> Image Important to Understand!
