Reservation and booking information

Latest update: 26 Sep 2008 [11:49 MDT]

Here you will find information on how to get to Santa Fe, and how to make your hotel room reservation. But before you book anything, you might want to consider arriving early and join the VLA tour on Monday 2 February 2004. Sign up by Tuesday 20 January 2004.

Airports, cars and public transport

Santa Fe has a small airport and is mainly serviced from Denver. However, most likely you will to fly into Albuquerque (ABQ) International Sunport, which is at about an hour's drive Southwest of Santa Fe. Overseas participants usually have to switch planes to clear customs at another airport before arriving in New Mexico - make sure you have a valid visa for the USA.

Both Santa Fe and Albuquerque airports have rental car companies. You can book rental cars through your travel agent or on the web, but note that the Hilton (and the rest of downtown Santa Fe) charges for parking ($5 per night if you stay at the Hilton, $10 if you don't). Note that if you stay in the Hilton and do not want to do any serious touring, you don't need a car to get to downtown Santa Fe - you're already there, and the Plaza is only at a couple of minutes walking distance.

Apart from rental car companies, there are a number of Santa Fe Shuttle services charging about $20-$25 for a one-way Albuquerque airport-to-hotel ticket - they generally require reservations a day or so ahead. More information on these companies will be posted on the meeting web pages later. Santa Fe also has an AMTRAK railway station and is frequented by bus companies.

Hotel bookings

The organizers do not handle hotel bookings, please see Hilton of Santa Fe. Note that we have set up a page for people who wish to find a roommate. Of course you can choose another place to stay, but this hotel is the meeting venue and offers a reasonable price (which is the Government rate: including taxes about $110 for single and $145 for double occupancy) for downtown Santa Fe -- very close to the central and historic Plaza. This rate starts three days before the meeting starts and is valid until three days after the meeting ends when you use our special group rate code "XRW" to make your hotel reservation.

The deadline for the Hilton hotel reservation is 6 January 2004, but as we have a limited number of rooms blocked, we strongly suggest you book your hotel by Monday 1 December 2003. You can use the following ways to make a reservation; they all need a 'first night' deposit or credit card guarantee, which will be lost if cancellations are made less than 72 hours prior to arrival.
