The Sixth Summer School in Synthesis Imaging took place from June 17 through June 23 of 1998 in Socorro, NM. Attendance at this school was a record-breaking 139 people from 13 countries. The participants heard 28 lectures on interferometry, spent 1 day in a data reduction tutorial and enjoyed an in depth tour of the VLA. A book containing the lectures has been edited by Greg Taylor, Chris Carilli and Rick Perley and published by the ASP (Volume 180). The book came out in print on July 15, 1999. Check out ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS below.
Sad news. On Saturday, July 4, Dan Briggs was killed in a skydiving accident near Chicago. Dan gave an excellent lecture on Imaging and Deconvolution at the summer school. This picture of Dan (far right) at the summer school picnic was taken on June 19 by Nick Dudish. In addition to his lecture Dan contributed numerous useful suggestions to me about the school and the book. He was an enthusiastic teacher and researcher who will be sorely missed. The synthesis imaging book based on the lectures given at the 98 school will be dedicated to Dan Briggs. Here is a link to a memorial web page for Dan. [Nick, here is the cutout that I would like to put on the dedication page].
