N A W G ======= NRAO Algorithms Working Group Meeting - PRELIMINARY AGENDA Date: 2005-9-14 (Wednesday) Time: 1300 MDT = 1500 EDT Video Hub: CV-conf (others call in) Rooms: SOC317/CV311/GB241/TUCN505 =============================================================================== The NAWG: I would like to invite you to attend and participate in the eighth NRAO Algorithms Working Group (NAWG) meeting on Wednesday 14 September 2005. The goal of these meetings is to have a general forum to discuss data-processing algorithms related issues of interest to scientists and software folks alike (independent of development platform or package). This is in response to the pressures of planning for the EVLA hard problems like wide-field/wide-band imaging as well as thinking about problems for ALMA and GBT. It is meant to be as observatory-wide as possible and I'm trying to solicit some participants from the various sites. These meetings are meant to be mostly informal discussion with some scheduled presentations ("Main Events") on algorithmic research and/or implementation topics. If you wish to participate and also want to speak on a topic let me know (or just show up either in person or via video/audio)! These meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Wednesday each month (in the NAUG meeting slot in the calendar). =============================================================================== Agenda: Send items for inclusion to smyers 1. Organizational issues o Tim Pearson has arrived at the AOC for his 3-month sabbatical from Caltech. We welcome him to the NAWG! 2. Project-related (ALMA, EVLA, GBT, VLBA, &c.) issues o NSF Software Review - scheduled for NSF HQ in Washington, DC on Sep 27. (see also topics from last meeting) 3. ***Main Event*** - Presentations and Discussion Items ******************************************************************* o Pipelines Lindsey Davis (ALMA) and Lorant Sjouwerman (VLA/VLBA) will give brief descriptions of their work on the respective science pipelines for these projects. This will lead into informal discussions on the scientific and heuristical considerations in pipeline development and scientific use. Materials - from Lindsey: The NAWG might find the following links of interest: 1. the ALMA pipeline twiki page http://almasw.hq.eso.org/almasw/bin/view/PIPELINE/WebHome 2. the ALMA pipeline heuristics page http://almasw.hq.eso.org/almasw/bin/view/PIPELINE/PipelineHeuristics 3. The Pipeline Team meeting page (July 2005) http://almasw.hq.eso.org/almasw/bin/view/PIPELINE/FaceToFaceJuly2005Socorro The talk is based is based on what happened at this meeting. At the end of the attachments section is a power point / pdf set of summary slides that people can look at if they wish (PipelineNaugSummary.(ppt/pdf). Won't be able to go over everthing in those slides so people cna ask about them if interested. ******************************************************************* 4. Future events (please sign up!) o George Moellenbrock - an update on frequency-dependent polcal (main) o Walter Brisken - a proposed self-cal modification (short) 5.
