All,

The CASA Alpha release is available for a first look. The summary status is:

o it has been installed at the AOC and is accessible via:
   > . /home/casa/casainit.sh or source /home/casa/casainit.csh
   > casapy

o the RHE4 rpms are available for download; see the instructions in:
   - Cookbook: https://wikio.nrao.edu/bin/view/Software/Cookbook
   - Obtaining CASA page: https://wikio.nrao.edu/bin/view/Software/ObtainingCASA

o the preliminary tool-based cookbook is ready for review at:

(minus figures for now)

o the preliminary task-based cookbook is ready for review at:
   - https://wikio.nrao.edu/bin/view/Software/Cookbook

Please note that this is far from complete. The initial sections
dealing with the interface should be evaluated. However, most sections
are marked as under construction.  We hope to have the core synthesis
sections complete with the first patch (calibration and imaging) with
mosaicing, single dish combination to be added shortly after. You can
however review these sections in the advanced cookbook (tool-based).

o There is a regression script that I recommend running after your
  install to verify that things are running adequately; you can obtain this at:
   - http://casa.nrao.edu/ngc5921_regression.py
   > casapy
   > execfile 'ngc5921_regression.py' # this file should be in the
                                      # directory that you run from

o The first patch is planned for November 1

o Finally, there is was a bug found after the distribution that
  affects the import of VLA archive data (as opposed to UVFITS). If
  you plan to run on such data, please contact me for the fix or await
  it in the first patch on the 1st.
