From wbrisken@aoc.nrao.edu Tue Mar 9 15:16:25 2004 Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 16:08:54 -0700 (MST) From: Walter Brisken To: aips2-naug@zia.aoc.nrao.edu Subject: [Aips2-naug] Data selection / TST1 readiness / Python I'm combining three quick thoughts in one email. 1. Feedback regarding George's data selection proposal I think this is in good shape. That it reduces to the "obvious" when doing simple selections is important. I have two features that I think would be useful: A way for the selection string to return an explicit list. This is mainly useful for field_id selection to make sure the desired fields are being selected. The other feature is a method to force the selection to work on index or on value, rather than defaulting to one and falling back on the other. For scripting, a F return value indicating nothing selected would be more desirable than an unexpected match. This would be most problematic when choosing antennas. 2. TST1 readiness Should be good to go. 3. Python I understand that porting of parts of aips++ to python is underway. I think it would be good for the NAUG to hear about this and have a chance to make comments before it is too late. One particular item I am interested in is the storage and computations of matrices. Many projects these days are using Numarray (http://www.stsci.edu/resources/software_hardware/numarray) includiny PyRAF (the IRAF port to Python). -Walter _______________________________________________ Aips2-naug mailing list Aips2-naug@listmgr.cv.nrao.edu http://listmgr.cv.nrao.edu/mailman/listinfo/aips2-naug
