NAUG News o Joe's last day will be Oct 23 2. CASA Status Report o Alpha Patch 2 status - see main event o Status of Mac distribution? Other platforms? Mac distro should be OK now (might be a couple of issues) Darrel has a new machine for builds FedoraCore 6 soon (Crystal will ask Darrel) 64bit undergoing testing Question about 64-bit FC6 3. ALMA o Issues for ANASAC meeting (Aug 14 at CV) Crystal will give demo - JM to help this week (tomorrow?) ASAC/ANASAC question on CASA readiness deferred? Should have a good answer ready in any event. 4. EVLA o first correlator boards should arrive in June 2008! Note this is around the time of Beta Patch 3. This will give something like 3/4 of the bandwidth for about 10 antennas. Should make sure CASA schedule is aligned to this. o upcoming EVLA Advisory Committee meeting (Sep 6-7 at AOC) CASA readiness will be a key issue (along with algorithms) Should have concise summary of the projected state of CASA at Beta and at June 2008 and beyond. Looks like Joe will give 1hr long talk & demo Ed and Steve will talk about algorithm development 5. Main Event - Presentations and Discussion Items *************************************************************** See also CASA Wiki: https://wikio.nrao.edu/bin/view/Software/2007-Aug-08 - Alpha patch 2 status Testing progress and key items. See the check marks on the beta planning page: https://wikio.nrao.edu/bin/view/Software/BetaPlanning ===== Testing ===== Freeze will happen Aug 15 or 16, with Patch available on Monday Aug 20. Testing will kick off Mon Aug 20. Schedule NAUG kickoff on Mon morning 0800MDT/1000EDT. Focused testing the weeks of Aug 20-24 (Week1) and Aug 27-31 (Week2). CASA crew will be in CV - schedule: Aug 20 - Aug 24 George Aug 24 - Aug 29 Joe Aug 27 - Sep 1 Kumar Big group will be in CV. They will focus on Calibration on Week 1 (w/George) and imaging on Week 2 (w/Kumar). There will be maybe 4 in Socorro for testing (with Steve and David full time). Action: Steve will come up with a "plan". Are there key datasets to push through? ===== Bugs ===== There are about 200 bugs now in JIRA that Joe entered based on our past testing (like in June). Testers should use JIRA now for bug and enhancement submission. Can still write up testing log for NAUG, send to smyers (but bugs should be entered by tester themselves in JIRA). NEW TODAY (AFTER MEETING)! Bug submitters should fill in stuff under the new Submission Tab: Issue Type: Summary: Priority: Component: Affects Versions: Reporter: Description: Operating System: Version and Revision #: Remember we are in "Alpha" not Beta patches!!!!! Cookbook comments should just be mailed to smyers There is a "release note" style summary of resolved bugs etc auto-generated by JIRA at: http://casa.nrao.edu/alpha_release.html (Note you need to be logged into JIRA to follow issue links) ===== Issues ===== listobs will stay as listobs in Beta maybe longer (not changed to listscans) there are still serious mosaicing issues (like flux normalization) being worked on by Kumar there have been suggested logger output changes for clean (Steve) and importvla (Ed). Should also give ones for the key calibration tasks. Unlikely to get into Patch 2, hopefully soon thereafter. Joe has some examples in the fits/uvfits "library". He will compile lists of these and which ones work. Unlikely to get compliance for unsupported fits, but uvfits may be possible. ia image fitting (e.g. Gaussians) not yet available, probably will be dropped from beta ===== Beta Release ===== NAUG cabal (Crystal, Michael, Ed, Steve) will make call on or around Sep 15. Date is still currently Sep 30. Will probably need a "Alpha Patch 2.5" around Sep 15 to assess Beta viability. Should check then with final review of "key paths" plus crash testing. Ed will be in Socorro from Sep 5, so last-minute evaluation can occur. Crystal will be gone Sep 23-28. Steve will probably be gone Sep 11-14 (in Wash DC). Debra mentioned that in Garching some ESO testers and ARC managers wanted to come to CV in late September to get filled in on the Beta (a tutorial?). Crystal was surprised she hadn't heard from them. It was unclear to us that this timing was good given the pressure to prepare for Beta release (e.g. release documentation etc.). Maybe right after the Beta so they could be demo-ed the actual beta? ===== - Testing planning A number of people will be testing in CV and at the AOC in the next couple of weeks. Some of the group (Joe, Kumar, George) will take shifts in CV later this month. - Cookbook The latest version of the cookbook is available on the CASA and NAUG pages, or directly at: http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/~smyers/naug/doc/cookbook/casa_cookbook.pdf Last update was Aug 1, 2007. I will be keeping this up-to-date as I edit, go grab the latest version before testing to avoid confusion. *************************************************************** Future Topics o suggestions welcome 6.
