Minutes of the NAUG - AIPS++ meeting on 11dec02 Attendees: John Hibbard, Ed Fomalont, Claire Chandler, Mark Claussen, Greg Taylor, Bryan Butler, Debra Shepherd, George Moellenbrock, Sanjay Bhatnagar, David King, Doug Tody Subject of discussion: VLA Audit - All Audit results should be sent to Debra and Steve by 1jan03. - Send modifications for requirements to Debra, she will put them in the audit document and post new versions of the document on the web at: http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/~dshepher/aips++ - The latest version of the cookbook is also at this web site for people to grade. - The next version of the audit document will have people's names assigned to each section. Names will be stripped out of the final version. - Several people complained that they could not make the meeting because of a conflict with an EVLA II meeting. Debra talked to Michael Rupen about this. Michael, Jim, and Frazer brought it up at the EVLA meeting. Peter has agreed to look for another slot (although it will take a few weeks to work this out). Notes on specific sections: --------------------------- Section 2.1 Operations: Ed, Sanjay, (benchmarking) Claire (installation and interface) - Ed and Sanjay will meet soon to start the benchmarking audit. - Claire is working on the installation and interface issues. She has installed aips++ on her laptop but the procedure to update aips++ from the release to the stable version is not complete. Wess is working on this but it may not be ready until after Christmas. This is an issue because John (and others) want to install the stable version of aips++ on a laptop so they can work on the audit over Christmas break. Section 2.2 Data Format, Accessibility, and Manipulation: Steve, Bryan (data handling, import/export), Mark (examination). - no update. Section 2.3 Calibration and Editing: Greg (polarization), John (spectral line), Frazer (flagging), Claire (apriori calibration) - Greg Taylor is processing a polarized data set through cal and editing. He has made an image but there are clear errors in the Q and/or U images that are not there in the aips-processed images, the Q and U solutions are different from aips solutions, and the final noise level in the aips++ image is about 20% worse than in the aips image. Greg is working with George to resolve these problems. He will continue along this avenue for a few more days, then write up the audit. - Claire will take all of section 2.3.3: Apriori Calibration. - John Hibbard will begin work on spectral line cal and editing as soon as he gets his laptop installation problems solved. Greg Taylor will work with John to help him with the installation. Section 2.4 Imaging: Debra (general and mosaicing), Ed (general and wide-field), Bryan, Crystal (wide-field) - Debra and Ed have met and modified the requirements. Some will be shifted to Data Analysis. - Bryan and Crystal will work on wide-field imaging aspects, Debra will concentrate on mosaicing, Ed and Debra will also do the General requirements. Section 2.5 Data Analysis: Crystal, Walter, Mark (all), Bryan (uv fitting) - Crystal, Walter, and Mark have sent Debra modified requirements and are ready to begin the audit. - Bryan recommends that uv-fitting be included in this section and will work with Crystal, Walter, and Mark to do this. Section 2.6 Visualization: Crystal, Walter, Mark, John (all) - Crystal, Walter, and Mark have sent Debra modified requirements and are ready to begin the audit. Section 2.7 Special Features: Mark (simulations), Bryan (solar system), Walter (pulsar and astrometry), Steve (pipeline). - no update. Section 2.8 Documentation and Help Facility Debra, Mark (all), John (VLA cookbook) - Debra and Mark will grade all requirements in this section but it would be nice to have another person take a look at them later. After the meeting, Deb talked to Walter - Walter has agreed to review the audit results before Christmas. _______________________________________________ Aips2-naug mailing list Aips2-naug@listmgr.cv.nrao.edu http://listmgr.cv.nrao.edu/mailman/listinfo/aips2-naug
