Date: Sun, 15 Sep 2002 20:36:56 -0600 (MDT) From: Joe McMullin Reply-To: aips2-naug@donar.cv.nrao.edu To: aips2-naug@cv3.cv.nrao.edu Subject: [Aips2-naug] Minutes Minutes of 2002-Sep-11 NAUG/AIPS++ Meeting Attending: ---------- AOC: Bhatnagar, Brisken, Brogan, Chandler, McMullin, Moellenbrock, Myers, Shepherd, Taylor, CV: Fomalont, Hibbard GB: o AIPS++ Release. Though the release has been available through the web site for over a month. The CD duplication process was bogged down by a new distributor. The CDs were finally delivered on the 13th and are now being distributed to the existing requests. o Recent AIPS++ development. A number of recent changes in calibrater have been completed (many of these were reported on by George at the last meeting). o channel selection in setdata o improved first-guess estimation in calibrater solve o scan listing in ms.summary o fitstoms fills SCAN_NUMBER column o scan selection in msplot o spectral plotting in msplot o interface improvements to flagger o scan based solution intervals There is a problem in the current stable version of the calibrater which caused problems in the scaling in the absence of a bandpass calibration (Shepherd filed a defect on this). This has been resolved since the meeting. o NAUG meetings. After some discussion, McMullin will sit in on the bi-monthly NAUG meetings to help improve communication. o Recipes. Some discussion of the current recipe format. Recipes/scripts that predate the format would require some work to format properly. If this is the only hold up to submission, please submit them to aips2-recipes and they will be formatted for you. o Documentation. Shepherd has been working hard on the VLA cookbook chapter with feedback from other NAUG and AIPS++ members. There was some discussion of whether information which is contained elsewhere should be incorporated directly into the document or referred to. We agreed that some redundancy is inevitable and that it is more important to have the VLA reference be complete (one stop shopping). Shepherd will meet with McMullin and Moellenbrock to discuss the current document. Some additional documentation targets were proposed. o Getting Results chapter on Measures o Getting Results chapter on LEL (image math) o Getting Results chapter on MS access Ed will discuss these with the NAUG. o Ed briefly discussed the VLBI document being worked on (with Brisken and Claussen). It updates the earlier AIPS++ document and assesses priorities. All agreed that targets for VLBI are at a lower priority than VLA targets. o Targets Shepherd discussed the ongoing work with the VLA cookbook (incorporation of GUI elements directly into the document - revised/improved organization). VLBI Update/Audit (discussed above) No work in imaging, calibration testing this period - follow up on outstanding defects. Hibbard is occupied on other NRAO duties until October. Sanjay briefly discussed some efforts on performance improvements and analysis. Fomalont will help testing in this area. VLA calibration scripts need to be added to the recipe archive (not actually discussed at the meeting). No work (in calibrater) for high frequency cal (AIPS++). This will be followed up. o Other Add target for Claire; she is working on ideas for improved tool manager organization (gui organization). Suggestion to invite Brian Mason to NAUG meetings. Shepherd inquired about viewer annotation. It lacks documentation and has some problems in implementation. Follow up on when this is ready for NAUG testing. Ed will be on travel on 25 Sep. There appear to be some lingering problems with the interactive clean capability. Walter is able to reproduce the problem - he will sit down with Kumar to resolve this. Brisken reported on calibration of VLBA data in AIPS++. Results were quite good; he will write this up as a recipe and time permitting as a short newsletter article. _______________________________________________ Aips2-naug mailing list Aips2-naug@listmgr.cv.nrao.edu http://listmgr.cv.nrao.edu/mailman/listinfo/aips2-naug
