Minutes of 2002-Mar-13 NAUG/AIPS++ Meeting Attending: ---------- AOC: Brisken, Brogan, Chandler, Golap, Myers, Taylor, McMullin, Kemball CV: Fomalont, Hibbard GB: Moellenbrock Notes: ------ o AIPS++ development There have been 67 defects resolved in the last month (14 from NAUG members). In a subsequent discussion, we decided that NAUG members should report on the results of resolved defects if it is of general interest. In this spirit, Hibbard brought up some recent changes in the image profile fitter, specifically the gaussian fitter which allows the user to save gaussian fits to use as future guesses and to view the gaussians independently for multi-gauss fits. Some recent development items of interest. cvsup capability has been expanded to also include docs as well as data. A 3-d source finder and fitter has been implemented in the image tool. Weights have been added to sundry fitting utilities. A new drag event is used in the image analysis tool in the viewer. You can now see the spectral profiles in your cube as you move the cursor around. Defect list will be sent to Fomalont each month. McMullin will give a DDTS demo as necessary at the next NAUG meeting. o Summer School The summer school data has been checked into the data repository and is now available at all AIPS++ consortium sites through: /aips++/data/nrao/VLA/ngc5921.fits ngc5921_ch0.fits planets_6cm.fits The first draft of the cookbook has been produced (Moellenbrock); this will serve as the focus for the efforts in different areas (calibration/imaging/etc) for the next few months. The time table for the summer school is the following: April 24: NAUG meeting:general discussion on cookbook; assess schedules of NAUG members for summer school and for tutorial training. May 8 : AIPS++ demonstration of tutorial on reduction May 22 : NAUG meeting: count of members comfortable giving AIPS++ tutorial June 18 : Beginning of summer school. Based on the sign-ups, Taylor will assess tutor needs for AIPS++. June 21 : Tutorials. o The AIPS++ release cycle draws to a close on May 16th. Release notes should be prepared by that date. The NAUG will again be involved in helping to draft this. o Review targets: Most targets are under active testing. The high frequency calibration and spectral line calibrater targets are awaiting AIPS++ action. Golap is nearly ready to check-in imager interactive mask work. Fomalont discussed the imagefitter briefly. There is an existing problem with the error estimates (defected). The viewer review has been completed by the NAUG and submitted to AIPS++. Many of the items are being worked on this development cycle. Others will need to be rolled into the NAUG's list of priorities for the next cycle. Execution efficiency is being worked on between Kemball and Fomalont. o Other Brogan had several recommendations for the imager gui. In particular to create a group which represents a logical process for image production; it would be a small subset of the full functionality consisting of the 'most commonly used' functions. This was regarded as an improvement by all, with an overall discussion of how to limit the exposure of users to a 'core' subset of the package. In addition, Brogan wants to suppress the GUI representation of tools universally deemed 'bad', a.k.a. map. This will also be done (on a case by case basis). Brogan will circulate her list of the 'basic' imager group functions (done). Much jocularity ensued. _______________________________________________ Aips2-naug mailing list Aips2-naug@listmgr.cv.nrao.edu http://listmgr.cv.nrao.edu/mailman/listinfo/aips2-naug
