From fowen@aoc.nrao.edu Wed Aug 22 16:41:50 2001 Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2001 16:32:12 -0600 (MDT) From: fowen@aoc.nrao.edu To: aips2-naug@pilabo.aoc.NRAO.EDU, wbrisken@pilabo.aoc.NRAO.EDU Subject: Summary of NAUG meeting Summary of NAUG meeting 8-22-01 The main report of new work was from Ed Fomalont working on the reduction of a large, deep field. Much of this work is going well in AIPS++ and Kumar's new, interactive boxing function will take this sort of processing much closer to being routine in AIPS++. Ed did report that some of his imaging work seems to run significantly slower in AIPS++ than in AIPS (in some cases 3 times slower). The AIPS++ group has been studying this result finds much less difference between using AIPS and AIPS++. Ed, Kumar and others will continue to study these differences. Athol reported that MSPLOT should be ready for new testing. The uv editing function of MSPLOT is the last, major remaining roadblock to standard VLA continuum reductions in AIPS++. Over the next month and before the release several of the testers should exercise this task and feedback their results. We also hope to have the long awaited demonstration of auto-editing in AIPS++ sometime in early September. Athol will find a time to have such a demonstration. We also have promises of more activity in testing spectral-line processing by the next meeting from Mark and John H. ---Frazer
