From fowen@aoc.nrao.edu Thu Apr 26 10:42:49 2001 Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 10:29:14 -0600 (MDT) From: Frazer Owen To: aips2-naug@zia.aoc.NRAO.EDU Subject: NAUG minutes Summary of NAUG 4-25-01 The regular meeting took place without the AIPS++ group members who were at a planning retreat in Green Bank. Various members reported on their progress. No significant results were reported on spectral line processing. Progress is being made with simple continuum datasets but bugs and lack of some features were a problem: 1) Problems with Clean Boxes and the region manager affected several people. 2) Editing remains a major problem and needs major improvements for the package to be generally useful. 3) Ed reported problems with map-plane image fitting. 4) Routine use of the package for high frequency work is limited by the lack of Gain Curve and Opacity corrections. 5) Debra reported problems combining uv databases. Details should be summarized in bug reports. Documentation also remains a major issue for the usefulness of the package. We will try to review various documentation efforts over the next few months. The goal will be to converge on a practical approach we think is useful for the community. Problems exist on a number of levels. We will continue to discuss this issue at our meetings. Given the problems still being encountered, the group remains concerned about the package being ready for the general users by the next release. Very significant improvements will be necessary to reach this goal. A separate document is being written to summarize our recommendations, as well as the progress, as we see it, over last 6 months.
