Got my field_ids aligned and was able to make my first image in aips++. Looks reasonable. Tried to make my second image and got a hole in the sky. Tim showed me the error of my ways in that I forgot to provide a new file name in the 'model' parameter. I had looked at the help and gotten nowhere. Submitted the following 'bug' about the help for clean: BBB> Bug AOCso01593 The help for 'clean' is lacking essential information. For example under 'model' it says 'Name of images' it is not clear that this is where the clean model get stored. More fundamentally, there is no mention in the documentation that the setjy and setimage functions (and maybe others) are essential or can influence the way the clean function behaves. Somewhere in the documentation it has got to at least point the user to those functions. I'm a bit concerned about having all these hidden parameters in practice. Seems like it might be easy to forget to set something. It is also a bit cumbersome, kind of like having to set up the inputs for the AIPS task IMAGR 3 times before getting anything to happen ('go setdata', 'go setimage', 'go clean'). TTT> Trying to do some simple image statistics I pulled down the handy "statistics" window on the viewer, but when I hit either of the green buttons to get some statistics it gave SEVERE ERRORS. George suggested that this might be a problem in the daily build, so I switched over to stable. In stable I can't get the viewer to come up at all, probably because of the aforementioned PGPLOT environment problem. So at this point I am stuck. George is looking into the PGPLOT mystery. --- end of testing. Frustration meter reads: |*********** | low high
