Testing AIPS++ Detailed Log April 13/14, 2000, session: note: TTT = trouble QQQ = question Talked to Tim Cornwell and he told me that 'setjy' will make a point source in the Model Data. So I'm doing that now for all my calibrators, not just 3C286. In retrospect I did see something about this in the documentation, I'm just still too locked into the AIPS way of thinking about all this. QQQ> I have 10 calibrators and it was a bit tedious to have to run through them all one by one. Is there a way to specify more than one at a time? QQQ>Now I need to set the u,v range to 0,25 klambda for 3C286. The documentation tells me to use 'setdata'. I am looking at setdata and it doesn't say anything about u,v ranges. Stuck. Talked to Kumar and after a few tries he figured out how to put a uvrange into setdata. You have to put UVW[1]^2 + UVW[2]^2 + UVW[3]^2 < (25000*0.06)^2 This is crazy. I've submitted an enhancement request. I like the bug form. I have a feeling I'll be using it again. I'm a little worried that this uv restriction got applied to all my calibrators. Hopefully I can undo this operation after I solve for the 3C286 gains. Set up 'setsolve' with 60 second integrations. Solve took a couple minutes and claims to have written solutions for 58 "slots". Looks like the uv restriction got applied to everybody. Now trying to use fluxscale to bootstrap flux densities of calibrators. Not working. Stuck. Went to find Tim. Tim showed me how to be more clever in applying the setdata selection. Soon this will be made much easier with u,v range buttons or something similar. We also reran solve and got some good solutions. In my first attempt it looks like I did not get good solutions. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. TTT> Use of names vs. use of FIELD_ID needs to be made consistent throughout as the way it is now sometime you need one, sometimes another. Personally I'd rather just use the name and not have to remember the FIELD_ID. In spite of having lots of good solutions, fluxcal still refuses to produce anything useful. Tim says I need to talk to Athol. Stuck. Tried plotting up my solutions. Default setting produce an absolutely worthless display. Not sure how to get anything reasonable out of this. Stuck again. Athol came in and installed some new script. Seems this might be a known bug since my CDROM was written on 4/10/2000. Restarted aips++. Same problem. Stuck. --- end of testing.
