Testing AIPS++ Detailed Log April 11, 2000: Tim Cornwell handed me the CD-ROM with enclosed instructions and I'm trying to install it on my Compaq Presario 1690 notebook. ./INSTALL ./INSTALL: Permission denied. Note that TTT> is my symbol for TTTrouble! TTT> had to su root and # mount -o exec /mnt/cdrom before I could run ./INSTALL during installation: tar: Cannot add file docs: No such file or directory tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors find: docs: No such file or directory ./INSTALL: /home/gtaylor/aips++/docs/.aips++.install: No such file or directory Warning: /usr/local/aips++/linux does not exist. According to e-mail from Tim I need to do the following: After installation: 1. Had to: a_root=/home/aips++/release . ${a_root}/aipsinit.sh 2. On starting, PGPLOT_FONT, PGPLOT_DIR were set to the previous values from the cdrom tests. Had to set by hand: export PGPLOT_FONT PGPLOT_FONT=/home/aips++/release/linux/grfont.dat except that I'm running the tcsh so commands are slightly different. And note that aips++ took up 1140 MB of disk (full install) Now launching aips++... 121 seconds later ... Success! Started help in Netscape. Very good. Loaded multi-source C-band UVFITS file and converted it to a ms. Now trying to use visplot to look at the data. TTT> I hit PLOT but Nothing much happens. TTT> I get illegal channel selection selected polarizations: [RR, RL, LR, LL] No channel specified Reading by time No iteration: need axes for first plot only Plotted 1 pages TTT> no plot shows up. Called in Tim and he got the test pgplotter to work by calling it from the command line in glish. I tried to do a visibility plot but my machine was tooo slooooww. Could be this is due to lack of memory (only 64 MB on board). TTT> The logger window comes up with a normal size and then resizes itself down to very small. This is not good. TTT> I tried 'quit' from glish. Big mistake everything just hung. Could we make it so that quit is the same as exit? --- end of testing on April 11. Frustration meter reads: |*** | low high
