The Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope

The "front end" of the VLA are the actual receivers.  Each receiver is built into a dewar, vacuum evacuated, and cryogenically cooled to 15 degrees K for maximum sensitivity and lowest possible noise figure.  There are 10 receivers in each VLA antenna as follows: 
(Note: the 2-band 196MHz receivers are not yet built)
