Radio Milli-Halo in the Nucleus of NGC 1275
We present high dynamic range VLBA observations of 3C 84 at
1414 MHz, 612 MHz, and 330 MHz. With these observations, we have
discovered a previously undetected component that is centered
60 mas to the north of the compact core and has a diameter of
90 mas. We have also discovered the first halo around an
Active Galactic Nucleus on small (< 1 kpc) scales. The
milli-halo emits synchrotron radiation, which suggests the
possibility of a new luminosity source near the centers of
compact cores.
