Assignment 1
A common tool for sysadmins is a report of working and broken machines.
You are to write a program in a language of your choosing (sh, csh, Perl,
Python, C, ...) to do just that.
- The program should be able to check a variable list of machines, either
from the command line, or a file, or something like that.
- It should generate ONE report of machines that are up and
down , and for the machines that are up, it should also report
the number of users logged in, load average, and perhaps other useful
stuff.
- This report should be mailed to someone. That someone, should be able
to be easily changed, either set on command line, in a config file,
or in an obvious place in the program. When you hand in the program,
be sure it sends mail to cs209.
- Your program should run on multiple UNIX's (Solaris and Linux at least),
and should not need any modification from me in order to work.
