Question: How do I change the Course ID

Answer: To change a Course ID, you will have to create a new course, using the old course ID as a template. All of the course information carries over through the template.

  1. From the Admin toolbar, click Course Mgmt --> New Course.
  2. Enter a new Course ID and Title for the course.
  3. Select the Other Courses button under the Template options and then select the course you want to rename from the list box.
  4. Choose a Designer Logon option (3.x only)
  5. Click --> Continue to finish. The Course Management screen appears.
  6. Locate the old Course ID in the course listing in the left frame and click on it. The Course Profile appears. Click --> Delete Course.

Question:How do I become the designer of a course

Answer:First, your administrator will have to create a course for you, and should give you the course ID and password for that course.

Go to my WebCT, logging in with your GlobalID, and click on Add Course in the upper left-hand corner. Then click on the Add link next to the course you should be the designer for and then click on Validate. You will now be prompted for a User ID and a Password. Use the course ID and password given to you by the administrator, and click on Validate Passwords.

Question:How do I view both the designer and student's view at once

Answer:There are two methods to do this...

Method one:

Create a "bogus" student for your course by clicking...

Course Management -> Student Management -> Students -> Add

And enter a test name and passwd for your "bogus" student. Then kill and restart your web browswer (otherwise it will have your instructor cookie cached and not the student cookie) and go to your course, and login as the "bogus" student. Webct will want you to create a stupid MyWebCT thingy, but once that is done you can login as eather the instructor or the student, provided that you restart your web browser in between.

Method two:

First, you still need to create a "bogus" student through

Course Management -> Student Management -> Students -> Add

but now you will add a hidden icon that is basicly a short cut. To add the student view link to the course homepage, click:

Organize Icons --> Add --> URL

Enter a title such as Student View, choose an icon, and enter a URL of http://webct-view.nmt.edu/ if you know the URL of your specific course, you can use it instead, as long as you keep the hostname as "webct-view.nmt.edu" instead of just "webct.nmt.edu". This is a trick to fool the web browser into creating a new session cookie for your "bogus" student.

Once the fields have been filled in, select "New browser window", and click Add. Now, clicking this icon causes a new browser window to be opened and when the user clicks on my WebCT or a course in the course listing, they will be prompted for their login information. Simply enter the login of a test student added to the course, and you enter the student view.

You will also want to make the icon "hidden" so only you and not your students can see it.
