NRAO VLA Archive Survey (NVAS) is an on-going survey that produces images and calibrated data from the NRAO Very Large Array (VLA) raw data archive.

The VLA Pipeline System, which extends beyond AIPS to fully automate data processing, consists of 3 stages:
  1. data acquisition and preparation,
  2. data processing (the AIPS pipeline),
  3. and output data archiving.
My contibution to pipeline development has focused on stage 1.  Data acquisition is accomplished by Perl scripts, C-shell scripts, and AIPS run files.  The perl scripts start the pipeline and write the C-shell scripts which are executed and invoke AIPS to run the appropriate run files.

The perl scripts.
ArchQuery Query the VLA raw data archive for applicable data beginning on the date provided as a command line option.  The range of days queried is determined by a separate parameter file.
ArchPreps
A simple "front-end" that provides a command line interface for Arch_Preps.pm.
Arch_Preps.pm A Perl module that: selects the data files desired from those files contained in ArchQuery output; downloads the data files from the raw data archive; loads the data into AIPS; prepares the data for subsequent execution.
ArchAuto Further automate the ArchQuery-ArchPreps sequence by calling both programs sequentially for a range of days specified as command line options.

Information about the scripts used to accomplish stage 3 can be obtained by contacting Lorant Sjouwerman.

NVAS Imaging Documents
The Loaded Data Log and Supplementary Log available from the links below are updated weekly with the web page.

Loaded Data Log
An ASCII data table listing project files that have been loaded into the imaging pipeline.  Data that is skipped before imaging is denoted as "Skip" in column 6.
Supplementary Log A text file and working document Jared uses to keep track of the current status of NVAS pipeline imaging.  At present the log contains
  1. Data loading failures,
  2. Miscellaneous comments for Jared,
  3. Pipeline system improvements,
  4. Archive months loaded (since 20 Jan 2007)
  5. Dates loaded recently,
  6. Dates validated.
Pipeline System Users Guide
A PDF document that describes in detail how to use the pipeline system.  Document also includes a glossary of pipeline system files.
