Subject: GCNEWS - Galactic Center Newsletter To the ESO/CTIO GC Workshop participants Dear Colleagues, As many of you know, during lunch on the last day of the recent ESO/CTIO Galactic Center conference in La Serena, several of us realized that there was a need for some sort of way to regularly exchange information on the most recent Galatic center research. So, we agreed to take on the project of producing a bimonthly newsletter and a weekly email edition to provide a conduit for information on papers being submitted or accepted for publication, out to the Galactic Center community. Thus, we are pleased to announce the start of GCNEWS. We have spent the past month working out the bugs and are ready to make our first ------------------CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS----------------- ======================================================================== G C N E W S - The Newsletter for Galactic Center Research - gcnews@astro.umd.edu http://www.astro.umd.edu/~gcnews ======================================================================== April 17, 1996 1.) Submission -------------- We are asking you to send us your Abstracts of upcoming papers which are related to the Galactic Center. Submission is simple. Just send your Paper per email to gcnews@astro.umd.edu and we will do the rest. Right now, we can process any Tex, Latex or ASCII Text file directly. If you want to save us some work please check the more detailed instruction for abstract/paper submission on our web-page http://www.astro.umd.edu/~gcnew/submission.html -------------Deadline for abstracts for GCNEWS Vol. 1---------------- ------------------------Friday, May 3rd------------------------------ (but of course you can submit for the next issue at any time thereafter) 2.) Subscription ---------------- This is the only time we will be using the list of email addresses from the ESO conference to make this mailing. If you would like to receive our newsletter, please EITHER: a) Go to our web site http://www.astro.umd.edu/~gcnews/subscription.html or http://www.astro.umd.edu/~gcnews/subscription-form.html and fill out the Web-form to subscribe, - OR - b) Send the subscription form we will send to you in a separate mail back to --- gcnews@astro.umd.edu --- with the keyword "subscribe" or "Re: subscribe" in the subject line (just use the reply or forward command of your mail program). - OR - c) If all that is too complicated for one reason or another: send us your name and address and we will add you manually. After a little while you will receive a confirmation of your subscription. Also, please tell any and all of your collegues with research interests in the Galactic center about our newsletter so they can subscribe if they desire. 3.) Different Formats for the Newsletter ---------------------------------------- We have set up three separate ways for the community to obtain the abstracts. a) Web-page: Just go to http://www.astro.umd.edu/~gcnews and browse. b) "Newsflash": Once or twice a week we will send an email message containing abstracts submitted that week to the list of suscribers who request this service. c) "GCNEWS": Every two months (more frequently if it becomes necessary), a more formal newsletter either by regular mail or in a postscript format (the preferred/less expensive method) will be sent to all subscribers. The newsletter itself will contain an article solicited by the editors on a topic of current interest, the submitted Abstracts, and any Announcements of interest (e.g. conference announcements or GC related job offers). Thank you for your help in launching this promising venture and we hope that many of you take the few minutes it takes to subscribe to the Newsletter and to submit an abstract. The GC community is not that big, so we really need the participation of a substantial fraction of you to make the GC Newsletter happen. Perhaps the deadline for the proceedings papers is a good opportunity to do your share and send us your Abstract. Regards, Angela Cotera & Heino Falcke P.S.: We are grateful for the dozen or so volunteers who helped us to test the whole procedure in the past two weeks, submitted abstracts and encouraged us. Thank You! (BTW, you don't have to resubscribe.) ======================================================================== Angela Cotera Heino Falcke (cotera@ipac.caltech.edu) (hfalcke@astro.umd.edu) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For Abstract submission please send the (La)Tex file of your paper to ** gcnews@astro.umd.edu ** ========================================================================
