Referencing your Paper

The reference to the proceedings should be
"The Central Parsecs of the Galaxy", eds. H. Falcke, A. Cotera, W. Duschl, F. Melia, M. Rieke, ASP Conf. Series, Vol. 186 Your page number can be found in the table of contents.

Instructions for Manuscript Preparation and Submission (submissions no longer accepted)

The proceedings will be published in the ASP Conference Series. The deadline for submission of your contribution is Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998. We cannot guarantee that papers submitted after the deadline will be included, so please inform us if you expect a delay.

LaTex macros for the proceedings can be found at NOAO or here. You need to use paspconf.sty or paspconf.doc (fully documented style file), the documentation is in paspman.tex or paspman.ps. You can find examples in psample1.tex and psample2.tex (or psample1.txt and psample2.txt).

The page limit is fairly relaxed, so that every author has up to 10 pages available, irrespective of the type of the contribution (i.e. poster or oral contribution). Please use some of this space to discuss and review directly related work in your field.

Since it is very expensive to reproduce photos in color, the costs for color reproductions are the responsibility of the author or sponsoring organization. We therefore encourage authors to use black and white reproductions for their figures. However, if you desire color reproductions the following are APPROXIMATE COSTS which are NO LESS THAN:
5x7:
1 = $ 975
2 = $1,425
3 = $1,875

2x3:
1= $ 875
2 = $1,225
3 = $1,575
The cost is dependent on the process the printer has to go through to reproduce the colors; therefore, the COLOR PHOTOS become far more complex as to costs. Please note that we do NOT allow color photos on the cover.

Gray scale PostScript figures should be included in the publication using \plotone{EPSFILE}, \plottwo{EPSFILE}{EPSFILE}, or \plotfiddle{EPSFILE}{VSIZE}{ROT}{HSF}{VSF}{HTRANS}{VTRANS} (see documentation). If you do not know how to use this or any other macros, please let us know and we will be happy to assist you.

I recently found out that you also can use the "psfig" macro if you need to scale the PS files or change the boundaries (this can be more convenient than using plotfiddle). Include psfig by changing the first command to \documentstyle[11pt,psfig,paspconf]{article}, provided it is installed on your system. Figures are included with the command \centerline{\psfig{figure=filename.ps,width=\textwidth} or \centerline{\psfig{figure=filename.ps,width=\textwidth,bbllx=XXcm,bblly=YYcm,bburx=XXcm,bbury=YYcm}. The last four parameters define the lower-left and upper-right bounding box of the plot as measured when you print the PS file on paper (portrait) from its lower-left corner. You can also use "in" instead of "cm" as units. With the additional parameter "clip=" you can clip out everything outside this bounding box.

Please provide us with KEYWORDS for the subject index: identify a number of important keywords that you feel should appear in the index at the end of the book and insert them in your latex file at the appropriate positions (or at the beginning if you are too lazy) as \index{main_entry1}
\index{main_entry2}
\index{main_entry2!sub_entry}
\index{main_entry2!sub_entry!sub_sub_entry}
\index{Source!source_name} etc ... This should especially contain the names of the various sources you are working on, please use a format exactly like \index{Source!SgrA*} or \index{Source!QPS}. This will help the reader to find your paper quickly.

Every contribution must have an Abstract!

To submit your contribution please send the Tex-file by email to gc98@mpifr-bonn.mpg.de. If the paper includes figures, please use "tar -cvf filename.tar paper.tex figure1.ps figure2.ps ...", "gzip filename.tar", and "uuencode filename.tar.gz filename.tar.gz > filename.uu" and mail the uuencoded, gzipped, tarfile (named filename.uu in your directory) to the same address. You can also use the csh script uufiles to do the job for you.

Submission by ftp is also possible: please open an anonymous ftp connection to ftp.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de, change to subdirectory pub/user/falcke/gc98, and create a subdirectory named exactly like your email address. Don't forget to cd into that subdirectory and then transfer your files. Please send us an email reminder when you have completed the transfer to make sure your contribution is dealt with promptly.

The Tex file of the paper should simply be called "paper.tex"

The abstracts submitted to the workshop will be indexed by ADS and preprints of articles will probably be available through GCNEWS. We will notify you when this happens.

The conference is jointly organized by the Galactic Center Newsletter, the Sonderforschungsbereich 328 (Heidelberg), the Physics Department and the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona, and the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie (Bonn).
