21oct03 ALMA Offline Subsystem Detailed User Test Definition for January 2004 test The ALMA Offline User test will have 6 users/testers processing 4 different datasets. Testers will be: Chris Wilson (SSR, McMaster Univ.) Karl Menten (Max Planck Institut) Frederic Wyrowski (Max Planck Institut) Munetake Momose (Ibaraki Univ.) Crystal Brogan (SMA) Debra Shepherd (SSR, NRAO) Testers will have 1 month to reduce and image data (15jan-15feb) following a cookbook description of the process. Each tester will fill out a questionnaire, grade tested requirements, and return the questionnaire, grades, script, and final image to Debra Shepherd by 15feb04. Debra will combine all information into a final report to be completed by 29feb04. Before ALMA testing begins, NRAO will do pre-testing of these datasets and other VLA data appropriate for ALMA and the EVLA. NRAO testers are drawn from the experienced pool of the NRAO AIPS++ Users Group (NAUG). Specific NAUG 'pre-testers' for each dataset are identified below. Please contact D. Shepherd for questions about testing or to obtain access to datasets mentioned below. Datasets to be processed: ------------------------- 1. h121 - Carbon star, PdBI data DATA IS PROPRIETARY, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE OUTSIDE OF TESTING. Single field, 1 & 3mm continuum lines = CO(1-0) at 3mm, CO(2-1) at 1mm. NAUG tester: Deb Shepherd ALMA tester: Chris Wilson & Frederic Wyrowski location of data (cannot be accessed outside of NRAO): /home/sola3/dss3/alma/tsts/offline/tst1.jan04/h121.carbon.star All Files are in ALMA-TI FITS format. (no dataset description or initial script available at this time). History: Data was reduced by Chris Wilson during IRAM 'phase II' testing. Reduction was successful. 3mm continuum image was made OK. Rough line images were made (at 1 & 3mm) but there was a bug in interactive masking (bug has been fixed) which prevented getting a good line image in the time frame allowed in the test. 2. l102d - PdBI data A Keplerian disk around the protostar IRAS 20126+4104 THIS DATA IS PROPRIETARY (Owned by L. Testi and collaborators), DO NOT DISTRIBUTE OUTSIDE OF TESTING. Single field, 1 & 3mm continuum many lines in each sub-band with strong continuum emission. The PdBI observing summary is available. NAUG tester: Steve Myers ALMA tester: Deb Shepherd location of data (cannot be accessed outside of NRAO): /home/sola3/dss3/alma/tsts/offline/tst1.jan04/l02d ALMA-TI FITS data files in /fits directory l102d.note = PdBI observing summary History: Data was reduced by Leonardo Testi during IRAM 'phase II' testing. Reduction was successful. Imaging required continuum subtraction with flexible, multiple selection of continuum channels - this could not be done. No final images were made. 3. NGC7538 - VLA NH3 data NH3 toward a star forming region. DATA IS PROPRIETARY (Owned by M. Goss and collaborators), DO NOT DISTRIBUTE OUTSIDE OF TESTING. Single field, 1.3 cm continuum NH3(1,1) line (requires continuum subtraction). NAUG tester: Bob Zavala ALMA tester: Munetake Momose Karl Menten location of data (cannot be accessed outside of NRAO): /home/sola3/dss3/alma/tsts/offline/tst1.jan04/ngc7538 Data filled directly from tape into aips++: src.ms History: Reduced by M. Goss in AIPS. Rough preliminary reduction done by D. Shepherd (no flux cal, no continuum subtraction, no editing of bad data - just check to see what the source looks like), reduction details in the file called 'map.' A summary of the data is in 'summary.txt.' A map of all channels with source emission is '1.src5.ps'. 4. g192 - VLA NH3 data NH3 toward a star forming region - 2 cores detected DATA IS PROPRIETARY (Owned by D. Shepherd and collaborators), DO NOT DISTRIBUTE OUTSIDE OF TESTING. Single field, 1.3 cm continuum NH3(1,1) line (requires continuum subtraction). NAUG tester: Walter Brisken ALMA tester: Crystal Brogen location of data (cannot be accessed outside of NRAO): /home/sola3/dss3/alma/tsts/offline/tst1.jan04/g192 Data filled directly from tape into aips++: nh3.ms History: Reduced and imaged by D. Shepherd, details in the file called 'map.' Includes full imaging and analysis. Resulting ps files are called 0.*.ps ----------------- History 26sep03 - Test plan drafted 21oct03 - Karl Menten added as a tester for a VLA dataset. Frederic Wyrowski added as tester for PdBI dataset.
