The GRUAS Project
This was a nation-wide project reporting to Costa Rica's Ministry of Energy
and Environment, proposing extensions to the nation's system of protected
natural areas. CAMRIS was used to compile and coordinate maps for
presentations, and for quantitative analysis of areas and ecosystems under
protection or in need of protection.

Prominent biologists participated from all over the country, including
Dan Janzen, George Powell (my supervisor, and founder of the Monteverde
Reserve), and Randall Garcia, who chaired the presentations.
Below is one example of numerical "gap analysis"--computer measurement
of overlap of various vegetation zones with existing and proposed protected
areas, to aid in determining ecological zones with inadequate protection.
Numerous graphs and charts were also created to present this data (I will
try to provide examples when I can).
