The Gill Creek antenna near Fairbanks Alaska. This
antenna is operated by the NASA geodesy group at GSFC. It is very
active in geodetic VLBI, probably one of the most active VLBI stations
in the world. We visited it after a three week canoe trip on the
Noatak river in Northwest Alaska. One unique characteristic is the
XY mount which avoids the dead spot at the zenith characteristic of ALTAZ
mounts. |
