INTERFEROMETRY
Eventually telescope is too big to build
Mimic large telescope using interferometry
- Sample only parts of the “aperture”
- Measure coherence of radiation from the samples
- The lens is in a computer (Fourier transform)
Difficulties:
- Must correct for atmospheric fluctuations
- Must correct for incomplete sampling (deconvolution)
- Limited to high brightness sources
Interferometry best developed for Radio Astronomy
- Harder and less developed at other wavebands
Must increase telescope size to increase resolution
