Converting the old encoders and data converters to the new electronics is fairly easy. We replace the two cards in the encoder with the two new boards and either replace the synchro with a resolver or add a Scott-T transformer.
The Data Converter is converted to a DRB by replacing the old cards and power supplies with the new and modifying the front panel to accept the LCD. See Drawing "DRB-panel" (Appendix B) .
The old encoder cards are mounted in card-edge connectors. The cards, connectors, and power driver assemblies are removed. The new cards can be mounted using the DB25 connector. A cable must be fabricated to connect the two boards. The new encoder design requires two external connectors, a three-pin for the +/- 15V supply and a fiber optic cable bulkhead connector.
