JObserve

Default Scans

When the same frequency setup is to be used for many scans, or the entire observing session, it is convenient to specify this setup once and reference it where needed. Default scans fulfil this role. There are two kind of Default scans; NRAO defaults which are standard setups which are believed to work correctly. If no standard default is acceptable, then you are allowed to create your own. Defaults can be selected using the scan editor for the initial default scan "Edit new source initial values" item in the Edit menu or in individual scans using the Scan editor. If a Default scan is specified to the scan editor, then any explicit values (frequency settings, etc.) are copied as explicit values in the scan being edited. When a Frequency band is specified (as opposed to a default), JObserve looks for NRAO defaults and then User defaults with names derived from the band codes of the A and B IFs (e.g. "XX"); if either is found it/they are applied to the scan being edited.

NRAO Defaults

These are standard frequency setups that will handle most continuum observations. The NRAO default list is displayed on the List Editor Page. Entries may be examined but not changed using the Scan editor (double click on the item) and copied to the Paste list and then pasted to the User Defaults list if you need to modify an NRAO default.

User Defaults

This default list is completely under your control. Entries can be added by cut and pase operations and then modified or an entire list can be save or restored using the
"Save User Defaults", or "Read User Defaults" items in the "Save/Read Lists" submenu of the 'File" menu. The entire contents of the User default list may be deleted using the Clear User Default List" item in the "Clear a list" submenu of the "Edit" menu/
