Transportation within Socorro

Please walk, carpool, or take the shuttle from the motel to the Array Operations Center. The parking lot at the AOC has been very full lately, and we cannot accommodate the >40 rental cars that are expected for the workshop.

NRAO/NMT Transportation (bus service)

NRAO will provide vans or buses for transportation betweeen all meeting activities and the Holiday Inn Express. Those staying at other hotels should walk over to the Holiday Inn, or walk/drive directly to the conference (see below).

The buses/vans will basically go back & forth between the Holiday Inn and the conference site, for about 30-45 minutes before the beginning and after the end of each day's sessions. We can't guarantee exactly when the bus/van will be at the motel, just that we'll be running the service between the times listed below. It will probably take 10-15mins to drive from the motel to the conference center, given that we have to pick people up & drop them off.

Finding Your Own Way

Socorro is a very small town, and although it often rains on fall afternoons, the rain seldom lasts very long. You can easily either drive (5 mins.) or walk (20 mins.) from your motel to the conference. Those staying at the NRAO Guest House are about a two minute walk away from the conference building.

The workshop takes place on campus during the first week of the academic year at New Mexico Tech, so watch out for students!

• Getting Oriented
  Socorro is a remarkably easy town to navigate: California Avenue runs North/South, and Socorro Mountain (the closest one, with the big "M") is to the West. You can walk across the entire town in under an hour.
  
  
• New Gate on Campus Drive
  New Mexico Tech has put up a gate blocking the east end of Campus Drive. Cars trying to get to the west side of NMT campus have to follow either Bullock or Neel.
  
  
• Parking Spaces
  There is very little parking available near the AOC. Basically you can park anywhere there's a parking space, or along the road (apart from Olive Lane and Neel Street) wherever the curb isn't painted yellow. Unfortunately the large parking lot convenient to the meeting, just West of Olive Lane, between Macey Center and the Array Operations Center (AOC), is filling up these days.
