Minutes from SSS Mtg 2007-Oct-02

Parameters Database Tool ("parminator")

  * Stephan is putting validation code in.  Parminator will be the only
    writer of the data, so this validation will help ensure that poorly
    formed data is kept out of the DB.  The other tools that access the
    parameters DB have read-only use cases.

  * Stephan is working to pull any business logic code out of the GUI
    layer.


Next Week

  * David is out.  People can set up this meeting next week, though,
    if that would be useful.

  * Brian, James, and Stephan will refactor the user interface
    layer of the various tools to use ICEfaces.  This is not something
    in which the astronomers will be interested.

  * Because of the above, it is not likely that there will be much
    for show & tell in one week.

Additional Observations on OPT

  * On the scan details page:

    1. It would be nice if the scan intents were closer to the top
       of the page.

    2. To make room for 1, above, the comments could be placed at
       the bottom of the page.


SSS Road Map

  * There was general unease and/or confusion about just what goals
    we are working toward, and on what time scales.

    + Bryan, Michael, Lorant, and David should meet to flesh this out.


VLA Tour

  * The SSS staff is about to write software that models some of the
    hardware.  Three of us were hired within the last two years and
    have never had a (non-self-guided) tour of the VLA.  Michael will
    arrange a trip for us plus some others.
