Subject: VLA tour, Monday 2 Feb
Hi all,
This message is to inform you about the upcoming VLA tour that you have signed up for on Monday February 2nd, starting in Santa Fe.
Here is the plan - please let us know ASAP if you can't make it.
We meet in the Hilton of Santa Fe hotel lobby at 8:50 in the morning. There we'll coordinate last minute thingies and hand out directions (see also http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/events/xraydio/directions.shtml ).
Anticipate that it will be cold (around freezing +/- some degrees), and note that the VLA site (as well as Santa Fe) is at moderate high altitude - so drink a lot. Also not to forget are your camera (etc), and just in case it is probably wise to bring your passport and/or government issued photo-id.
Some people have indicated that they have rental cars and do not mind driving with a few passengers. Starting from Santa Fe, we now count on:
driving their rental cars, each taking 3 passengers.
For the others we have a 15 passenger van standing by, driven by your colleague participant and always friendly tour guide Greg Taylor.
He will lead the pack and take you for lunch to El Sombrero in Socorro (just before noon) after which you'll continue with a full stomach to the VLA. The return in Santa Fe is expected to be around 7:30, in time for passing by the registration desk (open from 7-9 pm), and dinner.
If you encounter problems, you can find me or Greg already around the Hilton on Sunday evening, probably close to a bar ;-) or leave a message at the front desk. For last minute or on the road confusion, Greg can be contacted at his cell phone number (505)838-7411. If you have changed your mind about going on the tour, also please let us know.
Let's hope for perfect weather..
Regards,
Loránt Sjouwerman
