NRAO will provide transport between Albuquerque Airport and Socorro. The times of these buses has been set to best match the arrival times of School participants, and an extra mini-van has been arranged in case of delayed or late-arriving flights. The final schedule for transport from Albuquerque and Socorro is the following:
Mon 14 June 2004: | Leave airport at: | 3.00 pm |
8.00 pm | ||
11.00 pm | ||
approx 12.00am |
On arriving at Albuquerque airport follow the signs to the baggage claim area. At the bottom of the escalator there is an Information Booth. A representative from NRAO will be there from 2pm to 12am to direct you to the bus.
If you are unable take advantage of the free NRAO shuttles provided above then it is possible to arrange for transportation through American Transportation (formerly known as Socorro Taxi). The cost is approximately $57 one-way, and arrangements will be the responsibility of the traveler. Contact American Transportation directly (karyn@socorrotaxi.com, or use the toll-free number 1-800-9914276). A credit card will be required, and reservations must be made well in advance. Albuquerque-based taxis will not usually agree to take passengers to Socorro, and if they do, they are extremely expensive.
Buses will pick people up from the motels each morning between 8:00am and 8:45am and take them to Workman 101 (lecture days), or to the AOC (data reduction tutorial day, 21 June), or to the VLA (tour day, 20 June). On lecture days buses will leave from Workman 101 between 5.30pm and 6.30pm to return to the motels. On the day of the School dinner buses will return to the motels from Macey Center at 9.00pm.
If you have already paid the registration fee in full and are staying at one of the following motels there will be an information packet available for you when you check in: Payless Inn, Econo Lodge, Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Super 8. If you are local, or have made special arrangements to pay the registration fee upon arrival, your information packet will be available at Workman Center from 8am onwards on June 15.
