Gigahertz Bandwidths with the EVLA: First Tests of the WIDAR Correlator

Michael Rupen (for the EVLA team) (NRAO)

The WIDAR Correlator will be the heart of the Expanded Very Large Array (EVLA), covering up to 8 GHz of bandwidth per polarization with a minimum of 16,384 channels. The WIDAR Prototype Correlator (PTC) arrived at the VLA this summer, allowing the correlation of 1 GHz of bandwidth for two antennas. Here I report the (very encouraging!) results of initial tests of the PTC, and outline future developments.
