NRAO/NMT Transportation (bus service)

NRAO/NMT will provide vans or buses for transportation betweeen all meeting activities and those motels with rooms blocked out for the conference: Econo Lodge, Holiday Inn, Payless, and Super 8. The cost of this transport is covered by the registration fee. Note that this includes travel to/from the VLA 20th Anniversary Party and to/from the scheduled hikes.

If you're not staying at one of the "blocked" motels, you should either walk over to one of these and catch a bus/van, or walk/drive directly to the conference yourself (see below).

The buses/vans will basically go back & forth between the motels and the conference site, for about 30-45 minutes before the beginning and after the end of each day's sessions. We can't guarantee exactly when the bus/van will be at each hotel, just that we'll be running the service between the times listed below. It will probably take 15-20mins to drive from the motel to the conference center, given that we have to pick people up & drop them off.

Details of transportation for the Thursday hike, and to Albuquerque airport after the conference, will be given out at the meeting.

Finding Your Own Way

Socorro is a very small town, and the summer weather is generally beautiful; so you can easily either drive (5 mins.) or walk (20 mins.) from your motel to the conference. Those staying at the NRAO Guest House are about a two minute walk away from the conference buildings.

• Getting Oriented
  Socorro is a remarkably easy town to navigate: California Avenue runs North/South, and Socorro Mountain (the closest one, with the big "M") is to the West. You can walk across the entire town in under an hour.
  
  
• Boulders on Campus Drive
  New Mexico Tech has recently blocked off the east end of Campus Drive with several large rocks. Cars trying to get to the west side of NMT campus have to follow either Bullock or Neel.
  
• Parking Spaces
  Basically you can park anywhere there's a parking space, or along the road (apart from Olive Lane and Neel St.) wherever the curb isn't painted yellow. There are two big parking lots convenient to the meeting, one just north of the intersection of Olive Lane and Campus Drive (directly adjacent to Workman Center), and one just West of Olive Lane, on either side (N/S) of Macey Center.
