Preliminary Disposition of VLA/VLBA Proposals

  • VLA Fixed Schedule (default)
    • SCHEDULE: Approved for scheduling, possibly for less time than requested
    • HIT BINS: Tentatively approved for scheduling, running from bin 1 (good) to bin 9 (bad), subject to reconsideration
    • TIME ADJUST: Approved for scheduling, some time may be removed
    • TOO: Known Transient Proposal, waiting for a trigger
    • REJECT: Rejected for scheduling, due to poor ratings or for technical reasons
    • KEEP: Waiting for consideration for a later configuration

  • VLA Dynamic Schedule (gap-filling, move time)
    • DYNAMIC A: First priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC B: Second priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC C: Third priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC D: Fourth priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC LOWEST: Very low priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC EXPLORATORY: Used for exploratory proposals submitted outside the normal refereeing process
    • TOO: Known Transient Proposal, waiting for a trigger
    • REJECT: Rejected for scheduling, due to poor ratings or for technical reasons
    • KEEP: Waiting for consideration for a later configuration

  • VLBA Dynamic (default)
    • DYNAMIC HIGH: First priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC MEDIUM: Second priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC LOW: Third priority in dynamic queue
    • DYNAMIC EXPLORATORY: Used for exploratory proposals submitted outside the normal refereeing process
    • TOO: Known Transient Proposal, waiting for a trigger
    • REJECT: Rejected for scheduling, due to poor ratings or for technical reasons

  • VLBA Fixed Schedule (requires other telescopes, High Sensitivity Array, coordination, specific dates)
    • SCHEDULE: Approved for scheduling, possibly for less time than requested
    • HIT BINS: Tentatively approved for scheduling, running from bin 1 (good) to bin 9 (bad), subject to reconsideration; typically refers to phased VLA or GBT component (see above)
    • TOO: Known Transient Proposal, waiting for a trigger
    • REJECT: Rejected for scheduling, due to poor ratings or for technical reasons
    • Note 1: We may SCHEDULE VLBA, but REJECT GBT or VLA
    • Note 2: We may REJECT entire proposal because ratings are too low for GBT/VLA/HSA, and the science goals cannot be achieved with the VLBA alone

  • Global cm or 3mm VLBI (Proposal Code G*)
    • Pass on referees' average rating
    • Adjust average rating to different value
    • REJECT some elements outright (e.g., GBT or VLA)
