Writing CDRs in Linux

Writing CDRs in Linux

Introduction

The AOC has three machines with CDR writer drives. Workstation Areas 1, 2 and 3 each have one. These machines run the Linux operating system and the program to write to CDRs is k3b. Start it by simply typing k3b in an xterm-type window.

k3b is fairly intuitive. When it starts it presents four basic options...

  • New Audio CD Project
  • New Data CD Project
  • New Data DVD Project
  • Copy CD
choose the one the best describes what you wish to do.

In each option, you have a file browser on the top of the application and project area on the bottom of the application. Simply browse to the files you want and drag'n'drop them into the project area. When you have collected all the files you need - there is a space remaining bar at the bottom - click on the Burn... button. This will open another window with all sorts of features and options, most of the time the defaults are fine so click on this Burn button and writing should begin.
