For emergency computing help, refer to the Emergency Callout Guide.  For all other computer, printer, network problems, or any computer related questions, submit a NRAO-NM Help Desk Request Form or email the Help Desk.  Problems will be resolved and questions answered as quickly as possible.  To track the status of your request, refer to the tracking number e-mailed to you on the Systems Support page.

The Help Desk in AOC 262, Ext. 7213, has a collection of computer books available for borrowing.  For further information, contact them.

Additional reference material is available in the library and public workstation areas.  Personal hard copies of the online AIPS Cookbook can be obtained from the Help Desk.  The Help Desk can direct you to other relevant documentation such as manuals for PGPLOT, LaTeX, tcsh, bash, and some of the commercial packages.

This is our current list of local utilities and commercial software installed on the workstations.   For information on Linux, see Introduction To Linux .

If you are using an ASCII terminal (on paso, for example) the graphical utilities will not be available; however, there is still some help.   Basic help consists of the UNIX manual pages and some locally written text or PostScript documents you can print.   The simplest help available is the man command.   To use it type man command for example, man man.   If you aren't sure what command you need, try doing a keyword search with some related word. For example, to find some plotting commands that are available, type man -k plot.

On Linux systems, there are several sources of online help.   In addition to man command available on the other Unix systems the info command accesses documents available in the info format.
