Remote Access

Citrix

What is it?

Citrix is a company that makes a product called MetaFrame, later called Program Neighborhood, which the NRAO has available for Solaris, Linux and Windows. The MetaFrame product uses the ICA protocol to connect to a Windows server and display a remote login session. Each NRAO site - aoc, gb, cv - has a Windows server to which one can establish a remote login session. These servers are named %lt;site%gt;citrixa. For example, the citrix server at the AOC is called aoccitrixa.

What all this means is that you can use common Windows programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro from your office computer without having them installed on your office computer. You don't even need to have Windows installed, you can use either Solaris or Linux.

How do I connect?

UNIX (Linux or Solaris)

Simply type citrix in a UNIX shell. A Citrix ICA Client window should then appear.
