The Double Pulsar:  A Decade of Surprises

Abstract:

The only known binary system of two detectable pulsars ("The Double Pulsar") was discovered in 2003. Since that time, this remarkable binary has been used to test general relativity, probe pulsar emission physics, constrain fundamental properties of neutron stars, and calculated expected event rates for ground-based gravitational wave detectors. In this talk, I will review 10 years of sensitive GBT observations of this system and how these observations have been used in all of these ways.
