SHIELD is an ongoing EVLA OSRO program that is acquiring multi-configuration HI images of 12 extremely low-mass galaxies. These systems populate the very faint end of the HI mass function derived by the ALFALFA survey. This talk will provide the motivation for SHIELD and will present preliminary results from C-configuration imaging acquired in Fall 2010.
