High-resolution observations of the emission region surrounding a black hole would enable detailed studies of accretion and outflow astrophysics as well as general relativity in a strong-field regime. Recent technological advances have made these observations possible using millimeter-wavelength VLBI. This talk will summarize the current results and future prospects of millimeter VLBI observations of supermassive black hole sources, with special emphasis on Sgr A*.
