Sedna and the Birth of the Solar System

The discovery of Sedna more than six years ago in a distant orbit far beyond the Kuiper belt remains one of the most enigmatic finds in the outer solar system. While the orbit of every known object in the Kuiper belt can be explained by interactions with the giant planets, Sedna alone requires perturbation by some outside perturber. I'll explore scenarios for Sedna's creation and consider in detail how the discovery of this single object can be used to constrain the birth environment of the sun.
