Extreme Star Formation in the Local Universe

Extreme star formation events in galaxies include starbursts and the formation of super star clusters, forms of star formation that may have been prevalent in the early universe but are less common today. I survey the regions of ESF in the local universe, and discuss their contributions to star formation in their host galaxies and the environments that seem to favor ESF.
