Lifting Titan's Veil

Titan, Saturn's largest moon, is the largest single unexplored area of the solar system, and is unique in being a planetary satellite with a thick nitrogen atmosphere, and quite probably lakes and seas of liquid hydrocarbons. The rich organic smog in its atmosphere has let Titan keep many of her secrets, although radar observations have been instrumental in learning about its surface. Titan will become the focus of much attention next year, when the NASA-ESA Cassini-Huygens mission arrives in the Saturnian system after it's 7-year journey. The talk will summarize what we know about Titan and how we know it, and describe the Cassini mission.
