Supermassive Black Holes and Accretion Power in the Nearby Universe


Supermassive black holes may be generic structural components of most massive galaxies. I review current observational work in support of this emerging paradigm, including dynamical searches for central massive dark objects and multiwavelength surveys of nuclear activity in nearby galaxies.
